Our client and their challenge

Sage, is a world leader in kitchen appliances. They produce equipment designed to inspire people to create perfect food and drink in their own home with ease. From espresso machines to food processors, the innovation in each appliance delights.

One of Sage’s biggest growth areas is in the bean-to-cup coffee making sector. Sage has developed machines for the home that deliver the same third wave quality coffee as commercial specialty machines. This third wave of coffee is a movement that views coffee as far more than a commodity, considering it to be an artisanal food like wine, where the coffee produced is the ultimate taste experience.

Innovations in processing techniques have resulted in higher quality taste attributes. Introducing and educating shoppers in this new approach to quality coffee required a narrative and a retail experience that ensures customers are given

the correct knowledge to choose the right machine.

Our role was to support Sage in redefining the shopper journey across their John Lewis retail estate. The first location being the flagship Oxford Street John Lewis store.  The challenge was to educate shoppers in the ease of use and quality of coffee that the products deliver. Thus transferring their passion for food & beverage preparation into a high street retail environment and ultimately drive sales.

Our process and solution

Through interrogation of shopper insight, data and analysis, we made recommendations on the future look and feel for Sage. We provided a category management approach that was enhanced by the use of industry leading touchless technology.

A careful mix of product USPs was balanced with cross category educational elements. This immerses the shopper on the retail journey and guides them to the premium bean-to-cup coffee category.

Working closely with Sage’s ambassador team, we created a physical representation of their ideal selling journey within the John Lewis retail space. This process involved alignment with both the Sage International brand team and the John Lewis retail team.  We created and delivered an exciting and educational retail experience that met the needs of everyone involved.

With the demands of the pandemic dictating customer reassurance as a priority, we incorporated gesture-controls to the visual displays.  These guide the consumer through a sensory and educational experience centered around simplicity of use and the quality of coffee produced.

The result and impact

In Spring 2021 the Sage retail space at the John Lewis Oxford Street store was opened to the public. The immediate reaction to the display was extremely positive.  Customers continue to engage with the educational experience and comfortably follow the clear narrative of the display and sample the freshly made espresso coffee.

Our client and their challenge

Wincanton is a leading supply chain partner for British business, operating out of over 160 locations with nearly 8,000 vehicles and 20,000 employees. Innovative and tech-driven, they are pioneers in the use of new technology. To showcase their supply chain solutions to a broad audience of customers, prospects, colleagues and community visits, they wanted to present their offer in a new and innovative environment.

Wincanton's W2 Innovation program was launched in 2017 to discover new ways every day to shape the supply chain of the future for their customers. In 2021 they wanted to create a new interactive Innovation Centre to develop and showcase cutting edge design and technology for the benefit of Britain’s supply chains  The allocated space is a brand-new building next to the Wincanton fulfilment facility in Rockingham, Northamptonshire

Our process and solution

After a successful design pitch, our 2D, 3D and Creative Technologist teams developed an agile interior solution utilising a range of engaging technologies. The use of gesture control, VR, projection mapping and sound showers allows visitors to experience content in a truly immersive manner.

Our Digital teams created unique presentations; By using RFID triggers we controlled a projection-mapped ” Future Supply Chain” table. This surface enables visitors to experience everyday scenarios and learn about the technology Wincanton plans to deploy in 2030-2050.

Along with large format videos and innovation zones, the space was designed as a flagship resource for the future of supply chain . We were tasked to design, build, and install all areas of the environment.

Visitors to the Innovation Centre are taken on a journey through a multitude of thought-provoking, interactive exhibits. They can discover how online retail and final mile deliveries are evolving because of the technological revolution that is changing supply chains.

The result and impact

The entire build was under the control of Frontline. This involved approvals from the Wincanton board, local authorities and partnering with a wide range of contractors. We developed a deep understanding of Wincanton customers and worked closely with their in-house technology teams. The final solution clearly demonstrated that innovation is placed at the heart of their supply chain systems.

We provided solutions that are intuitive, engaging and enable the presenter to take the consumer on a coherent journey through the centre. Each zone is easily updateable, to ensure that space continues to wow visitors into the future.

The space delivered Wincanton’s reputation to innovation and dedication to delivery, by opening on time and on budget.

The challenge

The hair care category has recently seen a rise in new brands joining the market, bringing with them a fresh and bright look and feel. Aussie Hair Care asked us to support them in finding a solution that would boost their on shelf presence, helping them to stand out against the competition.

The solution

Our solution was two-fold. Firstly we designed a podium style shelf system that would unify the product as well as “heroing” key lines. The shelf system could be easily implemented and was designed to be manufactured using environmentally friendly materials

Secondly, we updated the on shelf artwork, using beautiful bright Aussie imagery, choosing colour-ways that matched each specific range.

The result

The final design was one that elevated the Aussie brand in store. The imagery and layout drew the consumer in and helped them customer to navigate the product effectively

The challenge

We were tasked with developing a two metre bay concept which Olay could pitch to one of their key customers. The design needed to showcase Olay as a premium brand that could hold its own against the competition. In addition the solution needed to be engaging and enticing to the retail consumer.

The solution

Together with the client we decided to firstly develop our ideas in 3D. Once we had finalised the designs, we built the chosen concept in VR so that when Olay met with their customer, they were able to discuss the unit in depth and could provide vital feedback prior to moving onto the prototyping stage.

The result

An engaging solution which allowed the client and their customer to visualise the final concept. This opened up the conversation around Olay's future use of VR in their retail design and development process.

The challenge

Wild + Wolf produce design-led gifts and lifestyle products. Most of their sales are done through distributers across the globe, and they usually present their products at trade shows.

Due to the Covid-19 situation, industry relevant trade shows were no longer taking place, so a more innovative solution was required to present the products and direct the distributers to transaction.

The solution

The Wild + Wolf showroom in Bath was set up with all their products on display. Using our Matterport camera we scanned the room and presented a virtual 360 degree space, which is now embedded on the Wild + Wolf website. The distributers are directed to the site and invited to take a virtual tour. We have added hotspots to the space, which link to the category on their e-commerce site, making it easier for purchases to be made.

The result

"When the Covid19 pandemic hit the UK in March 2020, our usual routes to market via trade shows became restricted, so we needed to think innovatively about how to launch our new season collection of design-led gifts to our wholesale customer base. Frontline Display offered us an ideal solution, enabling us to showcase our products via a ‘virtual’ showroom, allowing customers to view products from anywhere in the world. The service Frontline Display provided was exemplary. Acting with professionalism and exceptional efficiency, we were able to deliver a vital virtual service to our customers well before our market competitors. We look forward to working with Frontline Display again."
