Targus is a global leader in mobile computing accessories. They believe that technology should be a tool that empowers people to achieve their goals. Targus is committed to providing their customers with the best possible experience, from their products to the physical experiences in retail, exhibitions, and their own offices.

The Challenge

FDI has 15 years of experience working with Targus on a global scale. We understand the ever-changing products and technologies that Targus works with. The changing face of retail is a key area that we assist Targus with. The AR virtual try-on experience is a great example.

Targus wanted to find a way to allow customers to try on any product from their extensive range, even when they physically didn’t have enough space. This is where our expertise in the use of AR technologies has helped Targus deliver both standout experiences and ones that are meaningful to shoppers and business partners.

The Solutions

The bespoke hybrid AR virtual try-on experience was designed in-house from the ground up, using cloud-based AR to remove the need for app downloads, as a barrier to use, and off-the-shelf hardware to ensure both cost-effective and robust technology stacks.

We designed, in partnership with the Targus marketing team, a simple and efficient UI to allow users to navigate a wide range of Targus backpacks. Using an experience pack that the shopper physically wears, they can appreciate the real-world ergonomics of Targus designs. This adds to the hybrid physical/digital experience.

The experience needed to be spontaneous and simple to use. Just grab the experience pack, stand in front of the screen, and select the backpack of interest. The technology, comprising cameras and touchscreens, linked with some clever behind-the-scenes technologies that the shopper doesn’t need to worry about, magically places the backpack of their choice on their backs for them to freely move about and see if the backpack’s outstanding functional aspects meet their appearance needs.

The Results

Results

Absolutely. The AR virtual try-on experience has been the star of Targus’s IFA and CES stands, working as an attractor and conversation starter with a B2B trade sales arena. Plans are in place to roll out the experience to partner brands in the Middle East, Canada, and North America.

Conclusion

FDI’s AR virtual try-on experience has transformed Targus’s customer engagement. By leveraging AR technologies and a user-friendly interface, Targus overcame space limitations, delivering an immersive try-on experience. The success at IFA and CES positions it as a strong B2B sales tool.
