This is not going to be what you'd expect to read about the launch of a new website. This is about the team that built the website, a glimpse into the creation of the copy; the careful curation of images, plus the odd tear along the way.
Please don't misunderstand me, the work it showcases is genuinely fantastic, it's why Frontline and Big Group remain the 'go-to' agency for multichannel retail innovation. It's safe to say; I'm incredibly proud of our new online digital storefront.
But… Not as proud, as I am of the team of people that helped me deliver it. We built our new digital home during a global pandemic, from kitchen tables, bedrooms desks and sofas. Not a single excuse was given, nor a deadline missed, people stepped forward to be involved - no one stepped back.
This project has reinforced to me, that a company website is far more than the collection of case studies bound together by corporate guidelines, it's about the people that work at Frontline and as part of the wider Big Group. It's personal, this is their website, it's what they share with their friends and family when people ask them, "What do you do?", "Where do you work?".
Unfortunately, our website can't tell the stories of the passionate discussions, and the friendly debates during teams calls, as we worked to craft our digital narrative. As a team, we agonised over case studies that matched our business strategy – it's never any easy process! However, these minor frustrations were soon washed away by a tide of comments: "I'd forgotten we did that!" "Do you remember that meeting!" "I loved working on this project!" Plus a few more I can't share…
I wish I could say it was all sunshine and roses, but anyone who's ever been involved in an internal project will know - this would be a creative use of the truth! As a team, we made it through smiling, despite being presented with, at times, seemingly impossible impasse's - "the new blue is too blue but not as blue as the last blue." That one still hurts my head.
In closing, I hope our new website inspires you to stay for a while and peruse some of our fantastic work. And to everyone involved, no matter how 'Big' or small your part, be proud, be very proud of what you have built. I thank you all for making the journey a memorable one.
